ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 5 - PAINTING IT PRETTY
ORC-Gold-4oow.png

Welcome back everyone and thank you for following along this long! Week five of the One Room Challenge is here and there’s no turning back now! This week my main focus is finishing every painting project on my To Do list.

Starting with the foyer, let’s talk color selection and inspiration for the console table. I’ve decided to paint the console a bold unpredictable color which will be a drastic change from our brown table that easily gets over looked. The color that I’ve chosen from this color palette is the middle teal green color from the bottom of the palette. Last Saturday I made a trip to Lowes to pick out the color and this weekend I will be tackling this one-day project.

Moving on to the most time consuming paint project, the fireplace. Last Friday my contractor Mr. Karl, came by to assist us with our fireplace. The plan is to paint out the brick, paint the mantel and reduce the size of the shelf of the mantel. Mr. Karl is doing the heavy lifting for us. He’s removed the mantel and is cutting down the size of the mantel so that it will no longer over power the room.

This project has required both small and large hands. Last Saturday my 7 year old son assisted me with sanding and prepping the mantel for my husband to paint.

After the second coat is applied, if there were any doubts at all as to whether or not I was going to paint the red brick, now it is even more evident that the grey clashes with the red brick. So while we wait for paint to dry, I have lots of tasks to check off these last few days! And I haven’t even started my DIY large painting. —-Wish me luck and I can’t wait to reveal the entire space to you next week. If you noticed that I was pretty quiet on Instagram last week, don’t worry I will be making up for my mini hiatus this week since there’s so much left to do, so there will be lots to post.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE - LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER - WEEK 4

Welcome friends to week four of my One Room Challenge! Can’t believe week four is here already!

Last week I shared several of the items that I purchased and so this week has been all about monitoring a lot of my orders. Below are sneak peaks of the larger pieces that have arrived.

Since I am in a waiting period for the other items to arrive, my focus this week has been planning out my DIY fireplace. The most cost effective solution for this project is to “pretty up” the fireplace with paint! We do have long term plans to completely change up the whole facade of the fireplace but I am ok with getting my hands a little dirty to get my creative juices flowing. Here is my inspiration that I found on Pinterest for my fireplace.

I have decided to add a twist to my fireplace so that it is not completely copying my inspiration. The overall color scheme for the fireplace will be the same but, I will instead paint my brick white (in the photo she used tile) and I will also paint the mantel a deep gray. Recently I’ve fallen in love with the color ‘Irony’ by the new digital paint company Clare. Founder and interior designer Nicole Gibbons came up with idea to make choosing paint colors for your home easy with technology. She’s reviewed hundreds of color formulations and narrowed it down to 55 timeless colors for you to choose. She has really thought out every detail when it comes to overcoming the challenges with selecting paint. Find out more ways Clare is a modernizing the paint shopping experience for consumers here.
